Lauren: Post Surgery Day 3

Lauren is doing well today the CAT scan came back from last night about her eye (post 2.1) and showed that it’s only swelling around her left eye from the surgery that is preventing her from moving that eye beyond midline. That is a positive note, Rebecca and I feel like we are on this huge emotional roller coaster as we walk through this. We also saw Dr. Grant today who is Lauren’s pediatric neurosurgeon and he said that they are going to just monitor her cavernous sinus (where there is still a small bit of tumor) and see what it does. Going in right now would not be the best move since they would do more damage then good going in there. As long as the pathology comes back good they won’t have to do and chemo or anything else for that part. There is a lot to go through on the pathology, they said there was a lot of different types of tissue in the tumor itself and they have to look at each part and this can take awhile. Next week ENT will take her back into the OR to scope her nasal area down to her throat to make sure there is no tumor left there and to check her airway. They will also be moving her up to a 4mm trach from the 3.5mm. Below are some pictures from the surgery I thought we would share. They are going to change her dressings for the first time tomorrow and I will post pictures of that in the next day or so.
