Lauren 4.30.06

Lauren will be getting a CAT scan with contrast later today. We hope to have the results soon. She is doing alright. Duke has been very good to us, the doctors and nurses are the bomb. We talked with Dr. Grant yesterday evening and he showed us the tumor in the latest MRI as compared to the last MRI. They theory is that it may have shifted down since the upper part of it seems smaller. The only way we will know for sure is after the CAT scan today. It should show wether or not this indeed happened. The shifting tumor theory would explain why we had a sudden change in feeding compared to a gradual change which would have happened if the tumor has indeed grown into that area.

Again, this is all speculation until we get the results back from the spinal tap (done yesterday) and the CAT scan which will be done today.

The other big issue is keeping her airway free. No matter what has happened with the tumor she will be getting a tracheotomy tomorrow. This will allow her to breath on her own once it heels because it will bypass the area in which the tumor is located. They are also trying to decided what to do about a feeding tube since she has only had IV fluids since Thursday and nothing really before that since Sunday a week a go.

They will not be able to do the major surgery until they can get her nutrition up and under control. Either way she will be here for the next month if not longer.

Please continue to pray for Lauren in our family. Next week I will be going back to work and I’m trying to figure out how I can commute here 2-3 times a month depending on activities with the youth at our church and other obligations.
