Lauren 4.26.08

The entire family is now at Duke. Rebecca and Lauren flew up in a medical transport jet late last night from MCG. It was a great ordeal to get her loaded and here but she arrived safely. I drove up this morning after a late night trying to get everything setup for the Youth Explosion ’08 and the band sound checked so they could pretty much take the stage the following afternoon and play.

Lauren had a MRI today and a visit from the ENT guys here at Duke. They scoped her throat area and nasal passages. They are all going to meet on Monday and hope to have us a game plan then or possibly Tuesday. They have her intubated again (breathing tube) and also have her on 3 different IV’s. Her fluids are back up etc… so that is good. If they do a biopsy it looks like it will be Thursday. They could also do the surgery this week instead of the 7-8 month mark. This is all so crazy right now. We got very lucky, if we would not have gotten Lauren here we would have lost her. Please continue to pray for her.

We are staying at the Ronald McDonald House here at Duke. We where put on the waiting list yesterday and told it could take quite some time to get a room. About an hour after they set up the reservation they called back and told us that they had a room we could stay in. We don’t know how, or why, but are quite thankful of God’s hand here. The only draw back is the shared bathroom, I’m a germaphobe. The plus side is it’s $10 a day or free… compared to $50-100 for a hotel room. I can’t wait to meet some of the people here and hear their stories. I love community…. just not communal johns.

  1. Thank you for posting the update. I check this page at least 2 -3 times a day waiting to read something about little Lauren. I am glad you are at the R. McDonald house. I have good things about them in general. Please know we are thinking of all three of you.

  2. Dan. Thanks for being so great in keeping people posted. I probably fall under the category of – not a usual commenter, but a reader – so…I do appreciate the updates, brother.

Definitely still praying for Lauren & your family!

So…I am confused, are you back home or are you at Duke?

  3. We are now back at Duke long term from what everyone is saying here. We have a room at the Ronald McDonald House. I’m going to start commuting the 6 hour drive (one way) from Williston to Duke next week so I can keep up with the youth and my job.

  4. Dan, I am praying for you guys. It sounds like God’s hands are all over it! Praise God for answered prayers. We love you!

P.S. Amy may be picking the trumpet back up again for high school band. The band instructor @ Mosley is really encouraging her. Wish you were still here to “tutor” her! Her career with the saxophone was short lived!
